How the random number picker stays fair

When you pick a number between 1 and 10, each number should have exactly a one in ten chance. Every pick here starts with a random number from the Web Crypto API in your browser, which is far stronger than the basic random function many sites rely on.

Squeezing a huge random number into a small range can make a few results slightly more likely. Rejection sampling fixes that by throwing out the rare values that would tilt the odds and drawing again. Every number in your range gets a true even chance, whether the range is 1 to 10 or 1 to 1,000,000,000.

On the number wheel, the pick happens first and the wheel spins to land on it. For big ranges the ball flicks through numbers for show, but the answer was chosen before it started moving.

People are not very good at being random. Ask a room to pick a number between 1 and 10 and more people tend to say 7 than any other number. A random number picker has no favorite, which makes it a fair way to run a guessing game or a classroom draw.

Fair by design

  • Picked with the Web Crypto API
  • Every number in range has the same chance
  • No favorite numbers and no patterns
  • Runs on your device, nothing sent to a server

Ways to use a number wheel

  • Raffles and prize draws

Give each ticket a number and draw winners with elimination on, so no ticket can win twice. Share the result link so everyone sees the draw.

  • Classroom turns

Number the class list and spin to pick who answers next. Elimination keeps going until everyone has had a turn, then starts fresh.

  • Guessing games

Have friends guess a number between 1 and 100, then let the picker reveal the secret number. The closest guess wins the round.

  • Board and card games

Decide who goes first, pick a random page or choose a starting square without any arguing over who rolled what.

  • Workouts

Let the picker set the number of reps, laps or minutes. A range like 10 to 30 keeps each workout fresh and within reach.

  • Live streams

Streamers spin the number wheel to pick a viewer, a level or a challenge on screen. Fullscreen makes the wheel big and easy to read.

Tips and variations

  • Pick a number between 1 and 100. Tap the 1 to 100 quick range. All 100 numbers fit on the wheel, and anything bigger switches to the instant picker.
  • Run bingo calls. Set the range to 1 to 75, turn on elimination and pick one number at a time. No number gets called twice.
  • Get a tidy line of numbers. Set numbers per pick to 6, leave repeats off and turn on sort results for six different numbers from small to large.
  • Use elimination for raffles. Each number drawn is out until all are used. It works on ranges of up to 10,000 numbers and your progress is saved on this device.
  • Go below zero. Ranges can start below zero, so you can pick from minus 10 to 10. If From is bigger than To, the picker simply flips them.

For letters instead, try the Random Letter Generator. To split a group, use the Random Team Generator, or put any list on a custom wheel with the Decision Maker.

We picked two million random numbers

On October 23, 2026, we ran the code behind this tool 1,000,000 times from 1 to 10 and another 1,000,000 times from 1 to 100, using the same random source your browser uses.

  • 100,338

Times 1 came up from 1 to 10, the most of any number

The least common was 7 with 99,469. A perfect split is 100,000 each. Seven, the number people pick most, came last here. The picker has no favorite.

  • 9.96 percent

Picks that matched the number before

From 1 to 10, the same number came up twice in a row 99,620 times. That is the one in ten you would expect, so repeats are normal.

  • 29.23

Picks needed on average to see all ten numbers

Across 100,000 tests it took as few as 10 and as many as 135 picks to see every number from 1 to 10 at least once.

  • 50.509

Average pick from 1 to 100

The true middle of 1 to 100 is 50.5. Over a million picks the real average landed a hair away.

  • 100,000

Lines of six with no repeats

Out of 100,000 picks of six numbers from 1 to 49 with repeats off, not one held the same number twice.

  • 2,000,000

Spins that landed on the picked number

Out of 2,000,000 spins on the 10 and 100 slice wheels, every stop matched the number picked before the spin.

No number ran away with it. The counts sit close to even without matching exactly, which is how real randomness looks.

Frequently asked questions

How do I pick a number between 1 and 10?

Press Spin the wheel above. The range starts at 1 to 10, so the wheel lands on one of the ten numbers, each with a one in ten chance.

Can I pick a number between 1 and 100?

Yes. Tap the 1 to 100 quick range or type 1 and 100 in the From and To boxes. All 100 numbers fit on the number wheel.

Is the number picker truly random?

Yes. Each number is picked with the Web Crypto API in your browser, with rejection sampling to keep the odds even. The number is chosen before the wheel moves, so the spin cannot change it.

Can I pick several numbers with no repeats?

Yes. Set numbers per pick to how many you need and leave Allow repeats off. Turn on Sort results to list them from small to large.

How does elimination mode work for a raffle?

Turn on elimination and every number drawn is out until all of them have been used. It works on ranges of up to 10,000 numbers and remembers where you left off on this device.

What is the biggest range I can use?

You can type numbers up to one billion, and as low as minus one billion. Ranges of more than 100 numbers use the instant picker instead of the wheel.

Why do so many people pick 7?

Seven often feels less obvious than round or edge numbers, so it is a popular choice when people try to sound random. The picker treats every number the same, so 7 is no more likely than any other.

Should I use a random number for important decisions?

No. The picker is random and meant for fun and low stakes choices, like games and classroom turns. Do not use it for medical, legal, financial or safety decisions.
